John Schoenherr

1935-2010

You may have recognized the sandworm from Dune in the icon for this page. Indeed, Schoenherr is actually the first illustrator of Dune and also did many illustrations for the covers of Analog Magazine, a science fiction literary publication. But that isn't all he did. He was actually well known for his animal paintings, as well as other science fiction books. One of my personal favorites is his illustrations for Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern, which is a science fiction fantasy novel about telepathic alien dragons and their human riders.
